When meditation is mastered, the mind is unwavering like the flame of a candle in a windless place.
Bhagavad Gita
Meditation is the magical Elixir
The wise have often stated, “Where there is a will, there is a way.”
However, the will must be accompanied by a concentrated approach and commitment to succeed. Focusing on a positive thought or action not only clears the mind and makes it simpler to find solutions, but it also prepares the mind to be decluttered and grasp more. Meditation is defined as the ability to be present and conscious, and prepare the mind ‘to focus on a task’ to accomplish the desired goals.
Meditation is not merely associated with spirituality anymore. Meditation has become an everyday lifestyle ritual. This ancient practice started by masters was intended to be an integral discipline in living and leading a life. However, somewhere it lost its true meaning and got confined to the spiritual world. Now, as we advance towards understanding the human brain and neuroscience more deeply, we are able to realize that meditation is a simple and disciplined way to live a healthy and happy life.
Today, in an intensely competitive society, everyone wants to be successful. Meanwhile, in the pursuit of success, stress has taken over us. This stress has had an impact on both physical and mental health. Meditation is the only form of medication (with no side effects) that can help us accomplish achievement while remaining stress-free. Meditation is a practice that allows us to purposefully be in sync with our minds. One can imagine meditation as sitting in stillness, blocking off all thoughts. However, meditation is simply allowing our ideas to come and go under our control.
Types of Meditation & Their uses
You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes every day, unless you are too busy. Then you should sit for an hour.
Zen Proverb
Individuals have used meditation for thousands of years to develop an awareness of the present moment.
Spiritual meditation
Most religions and traditions use this technique. Most types of meditative forms are considered as a spiritual meditation. This technique focuses on gaining a better understanding of spirituality. This practice is beneficial to those seeking spiritual growth and connecting with greater powers of force.
Mindful meditation
This technique is beneficial to those who do not have a teacher to guide them. This type of meditation originates from Buddhist teachings. Here you pay attention to your thoughts as they pass through. You don’t judge them but focus on them paying attention. Mindful meditation helps in preventing anxiety, treats depression and reduces brain distractions.
Focused Meditation
This technique has two great advantages – sharp focus and attention. Focused meditation involves concentrating on any of the five senses, such as your breath, some objects, touch or sound, and so on. This technique increases self-awareness, patience, and tolerance.
Movement Meditation
Moving meditation is a meditative state – a shift in consciousness-achieved by doing simple motions. It is a method of calming the mind and increasing awareness. This practice is quite popular among seekers who believe in achieving serenity and body awareness through body motions such as yoga, walking, gardening, or any other form of exercise. One is focused and centered yet still moving. In this form of meditation, the movement guides one into a deeper connection with your body and the present moment. Mindfulness is the most important aspect of movement meditation; for example, being attentive of your muscles as they move or the sensation of your feet hitting the floor as you move.
Loving-Kindness Meditation
It is a style of Buddhist meditation in which the goal is to create unconditional kindness toward oneself and others. It could be perfect for those holding feelings of anger. This technique promotes the development of feelings of compassion and kindness. It usually entails being open to receive love from others and giving back to those close to you. The primary psychological operation is to maintain one’s good intentions toward certain targets, whereas the specific operation varies throughout Buddhist traditions. In general, practitioners silently repeat mantras like “may you be happy “or “may you be healthy” or “may you be free of suffering” toward their targets. Those who regularly practice loving kindness meditation are able to increase their capacity for forgiveness, connection to others, self-acceptance, and more.
Transcendental Meditation (TM)
The goal of transcendental meditation is to bring your body into a condition of relaxed alertness. Your body is totally rested, and your mind is quiet, but you are wide awake. With this style of meditation, your active mind sinks inward until you reach a condition of pure consciousness.
This technique has an advantage over other types of meditation in terms of lowering anxiety, tension, and, most importantly, blood pressure.
According to a study, when used under supervision, this approach can reduce stress and anxiety within minutes. Transcendental meditation doesn’t involve any kind of religion, philosophy or lifestyle. TM is based on concentrating on a single mantra that is silently repeated.
Respect the different methods of meditation available and adopted by seekers because all different paths lead to one powerful outcome – “Healthy body, mind and soul.”
Tiwiw encourages conscious living which is like meditation because it involves focused efforts to follow the discipline of consuming to the bare minimum essential needs in our life. Fulfilling the wishes of our loved ones with things that they really need is also a form of thoughtful way to live. These are simple but effective methods of being mindful, resulting in a happier mind and a healthy soul.
