Every morning serves something new on its platter to us – a fresh pack of 24 hours, full of hopes, possibilities and opportunities – to create a better, happier version of ourselves. So how can you make it more likely that it will be a good or even great day?
How you start your day is how you’re going to live your day. And how you live your day is the way you live your life
Louise Hay
It is rightly said that ‘a beautiful day starts with a beautiful mind-set’. It is in our hands and minds to design the day how we want it to be.
Take charge of your day or else it will take charge over you. We are very familiar with the famous quote – the journey of thousand miles beings with a small step. Similarly, the small steps we take when the sun begins to rise welcoming a new dawn in our lives govern the journey of staying motivated throughout the day. Morning is the most critical part of our day and the way we treat it shapes the day we want to live.
Consistent with its purpose to stay committed in making this world a better place, TIWIW introduces to its family a few simple steps on starting the day better to stay motivated and positive throughout.
- Plan in advance
Start the night before. Go to bed early to ensure you get good quality sleep to wake up well the next morning. Clear your mind of worries or things to do before you get into the bed. Say a big NO to watching TV in Bed. Keep your room devoid of clutter and make it a relaxing space to unwind yourself comfortably. Be grateful for all the good things that occurred during the day and practice meditation or saying a prayer whichever makes you feel happy to end the day.
2. Wake up Naturally
In the modern world, unfortunately we are deprived of the natural alarm set by the ‘Rooster’. We can still make the best use of the dawn sunlight peeping through the window announcing the arrival of a fresh day. Keep the blinds/curtains slightly open to allow rising sunlight to wake you up. Till you hit the habit of waking up naturally, set an alarm, but never hit the ‘SNOOZE’. Set the alarm sound to something that mimics early morning chirping of birds which is quite soothing to wake up to.
3. Meditate
Pranayam (breathing exercises), Surya Namaskar (Sun salutation) etc. are different Yoga forms that gently awaken the body and mind in the morning.
Founder of TIWIW Yogita Ajgaonkar highly recommends – “these practices have scientifically proven results and I couldn’t agree more on how I have been benefitted by simply embracing these rituals in my mornings. Doing just 10-15 minutes of meditation has helped me positively to achieve clarity of mind, feel peaceful and carry this attitude throughout the day”.
Meditation can be individualistic. You can follow your own way to meditate – you may either follow meditation practices advised by the experts or listen to soothing sounds, music, prayers or to your favourite playlist, read positive quotes, write down consciously positive thoughts, experiences, spending quiet moments thinking or doing nothing etc.
4. Stretch or do a light workout
Stretching soon after waking up or including a short window of light form of exercises is the most productive way to de-knot your muscles and get rid of early morning laziness. If you have planned well, head out to a nearby garden – to exercise or for jogging, brisk walking, – which will help immensely. The blood circulation is regulated to boost us mentally and physically for the hours ahead by improving concentration and energy resulting in feeling positive about the day ahead. This attitude will be instrumental in overcoming any of the challenge that you may face during the day, by staying confident and motivated.
5. Pick water before caffeine
Dehydration is the worst enemy to destroy your mood, focus and productivity! In the modern life we are in the habit of consuming coffee to keep the energy levels high to start off the work routine. Take care of your health and start the day with a tall glass of water before you head for any other source of beverage specifically caffeine drinks.
6. Have a good breakfast
The old saying that ‘Eat your breakfast like a King…’ indicates that breakfast is the most important meal of your day. Modern day busy schedules make us overlook this fact. Fill your morning meal with the right amount of healthy macro (carbs, fat, protein) and micro (vitamins, minerals) nutrients to impart sustainable energy that lasts for a longer duration.

7. Stay away from Digital world
Until you have set the morning routine with customs that prepare your body and mind for the day, do not touch any electronics or digital tools that can disrupt your routine adversely. NO work emails and NO visits to social media to check messages, posts, stories, tweets etc. These make you lose focus and succumb to unnecessary interferences. Instead spend some time to note down planning your own day. Be the total owner of your thoughts and the day!
There will be many other good practices to follow. Someone may opt for playing a favourite game of sports, writing positive affirmations, learning new skills such as music, dance, hobbies like gardening, painting etc. TIWIW recommends you to choose a routine that makes you feel at ease, enjoy doing it so that you can stay motivated. It helps to divert your mind from toxic thoughts or distractions that might ruin your day.
