Do you remember the resolutions you set this year? It’s time to revisit 2021 goals. Whether you’ve been working towards your resolutions or not, now is a great time to revisit and restore them.
“Work on your strengths, not on your weaknesses. How many of your New Year’s resolutions have been about fixing a flaw?”
Jonathan Haidt
Every year millions make resolutions like excise more, lose weight, get organized, learn musical instrument, save money, quit smoking, travel, spend time with family, read more etc. Despite of best intention the glow of fresh year wipes off by March.
Basically a New Year resolution is made when one wants to correct the mistakes they have done in the past year or do something, in a more organized manner. New Year resolution has become a tradition in these days around the globe. Unless you decide upon couple of resolutions for coming year the celebration of welcoming New Year won’t be completed.
These resolutions are adjusted to match the reality of the new world. Due to many reasons, 80 to 90% of the people fail to get along with the resolutions. One’s behavior, attitude & knowledge have a direct impact on the failure and success of these resolutions. Most of the time, it has been observed that the laziness, lack of discipline, stress of daily life and more importantly lack of idea of how to set the resolution right way.
While welcoming New Year, the goals they set and the resolutions they commit to; are made with a fundamental mistake that is misunderstanding of human behavior and the process of habit change. On the other hand, if you have made a New Year’s resolution with good intentions and yet you have failed due to several reasons or if you are one among the 80 to 90 %, then don’t be disheartened. The life gives you a second chance to move on.
Team TIWIW brings you few effective solutions to revive your New Year resolutions. Before going in detail into the revival plan, team TIWIW wants to believe in that “there is no ideal time to start new chapter in your life and to make New Year resolutions. More over during New Year time, one would be in party mode and making changes in habits is little tough. So better late than never.”
1. Revisit
If you have your resolutions from January written down somewhere, read them over and ask yourself – number one, if these are still important Goals/wishes of yours, and number two, if you’ve taken any steps towards said goals or not. Think about what was motivating you in January, and what you wanted to change or accomplish in 2021. Be honest with yourself on whether you’ve been on the right path this past couple of months.
2. Set small milestones
If you want to change your lifestyle or habits, don’t try to change the whole thing at once. Instead pick one area of your life to change to begin with. For example if you want to lose weight that involves physical exercise and changing food habits, first choose exercise. Once you are regular with physical activity then proceed to alter food habits. If you attempt to work upon on both, most of the time you are bound to fail.
3. Plan wisely
If you want to be successful in achieving your new year’s resolutions, you must plan intelligently. Decide upon your goals to be more realistic. Gather info about your resolutions from self-help books/articles. Collect or keep the resources required to achieve your goals, ready. This would not only ensure smooth running of the system, also reviving a failed plan would be much easier with little modification.
4. Find Supporting Community
Whenever you decided to start working on your resolutions, finding a solid supporting community is very important. It should be part of your whole plan to achieve your goals. Be it your family, friends or any professionals, this community would help you to keep motivated by encouraging and suggesting any important changes. Express and share with them what you want as reward with each small milestones success.
5. Don’t be Distracted
When revisiting your plan, note down the distractions that affected your earlier attempts. These have to be avoided at any cost if you really want to revive your plan and find success. Most of the revival attempts are successful because of the first calculative step. Since you have already failed, repeated failures cannot be stepping stone for success of achieving resolution.
6. Anticipate & Accept failures
Anticipating failure is not lack of confidence. Anticipating failures helps you to be watchful, be ready with plan B and easier to accept failures without getting disheartened. Since you are ready with plan B, there is no question of stopping your revival efforts. It would continue seamlessly.
